WatchFence is a Chrome extension in private testing. It follows your computer’s local time.
When YouTube is available
- 07:30–09:00: all channels, search and direct links.
- 18:00–22:00: ordinary videos from the selected channel and that channel’s video list.
- Other times: ordinary videos are blocked. Shorts are always blocked.
- YouTube Music: songs and official music videos always play. Other items play only from 07:30 to 09:00; at other times WatchFence pauses them and moves to the next song.
Switching between windows happens automatically. Open YouTube tabs are checked again at each boundary.
Common questions
A video from the selected channel opens the rules page first. WatchFence confirms the channel with YouTube and then reopens the video. If YouTube cannot be reached, the video stays blocked.
A playlist or live link is blocked in the evening. Only ordinary video links are allowed in the evening window. Open the video itself instead of the playlist.
A music item was skipped. YouTube Music labels each item. Outside 07:30–09:00 only items labelled as songs or official music videos play. Fan uploads, covers by other channels, talk shows and podcasts are skipped.
The extension cannot be turned off. On a computer where WatchFence is installed by an administrator policy, Chrome does not offer Off or Remove. The administrator who installed the policy controls removal.
